Vouchers are now fully digital. Once successfully ordered online, your voucher will be emailed to you within 5 minutes. Before adding the voucher to the shopping cart, you have the option to add a recipient name and/or message that will appear on the voucher.
Lessons can be booked by emailing ops@funfly.ie with your requested dates or by calling the number on the contact page of this website. We fly 7 days per week, weather permitting.
We operate the ICP Savannah S, a two seat training aeroplane that was designed in Italy. More information about the aircraft can be found here
All trial lessons are completed by fully qualified flight instructors. Your flight instructor will conduct a short preflight briefing and show you around the aircraft. When flying, you will fly from the pilots seat (Left Seat) and your instructor will sit in the passenger seat. All of our aircraft are fitted with full dual controls and can be flown from either seat. Our flight instructors are trained to very high standards and have all completed a rigorous Flight Instructor Course as specified by European Union (EASA) Regulations.
The airspace around us is quite open so we have the freedom to go most places. If you would like to see something particular from the air (like your house or town), let the instructor know and they will do their best to accommodate. There are some areas of prohibited airspace that we are unable to fly over (e.g. Portlaoise, the Curragh etc.). There are some other scenic places to fly to such as the lakes around Mullingar or the Slieve Bloom mountains.
For safety reasons we have minimum weather limits laid down in our Operations Manual. These are in place for your safety. We understand that it can be frustrating when your flight is cancelled due to weather but we will only do this when absolutely necessary. Visibility, wind strength and cloud base will all be taken into consideration. A nice day on the ground may often be unsuitable for flying (e.g. turbulence). Our experienced team of instructors will be able to advise and if we do need to cancel, we will endeavour to do so as early as possible to prevent an unnecessary trip to the airfield.
If you need to cancel your lesson, please let us know as early as possible so we can offer the slot to someone else. As well as conducting trial lesson, we have a large number of members who are learning to fly so if you can’t make your lesson, we’ll do our best to offer it to someone else so the opportunity is not lost.
Our vouchers are valid for five years from the date of purchase. We operate at all times in accordance with the Consumer Protection (Gift Vouchers) Act 2019
Yes absolutely! The plane is fitted with full dual controls so you will have the opportunity to fly as much or as little as you like. Your flight instructor will complete the takeoff and landing and once at a safe altitude, you’ll have the chance to fly yourself. Your instructor will talk you through the basics and show you how each control works in turn. You’ll then have a chance to practice. Flying a plane is probably a lot easier than you think!
Yes. The trial lesson is the first lesson of the LAPL or PPL course. This flight counts towards the minimum requirements of the training course. If it’s something you’re interested in, chat to your instructor and they will be able to give you some more information. Details of the courses we offer are available here.
Bring a copy of the voucher in printed or digital form. We would recommend a pair of sun glasses on sunny days. In the winter, wrap up warm as the temperature reduces with altitude. We operate off a grass runway and parking area so suitable footwear is recommended, particularly if the grass is wet. If you want to take some photos, bring your camera too!
Not surprisingly, we have strong demand for lessons on weekends. To secure the slot you want, we would recommend contacting us 2-3 weeks in advance for a weekend slot. Midweeks tend to be a little quieter. We are restricted to flying during daylight hours so the number of slots available during the winter is lower.
For a 60 minute voucher, you would need to allow approximately 90-120 minutes in total. This gives you time to meet your instructor, complete a short briefing, get to the aircraft and complete all of the checks. The voucher time begins at engine start and ends when the engine is shut down. This usually gives approximately 50-55 minutes time in the air.
No prior experience is necessary.
No, our aircraft are only fitted with two seats. However, you’re more than welcome to bring friends of family to the airfield. At Clonbullogue, there’s a café open at weekends when the parachute club is operating. There’s also a seating area outside where you can watch the aircraft and parachuting. At Benfield, we have a clubhouse with seating and access to tea and coffee that your friends and family can enjoy while you complete your flight.
The minimum age for a trial lesson is 12. Anyone under the age of 18 must attend with a parent or guardian to sign the temporary membership form. All of our instructors have completed the Children First programme with Tusla and we have a Child Protection Policy in place. Parents and Guardians are more than welcome to attend and participate in the pre-flight briefing.

The aircraft are fully enclosed but there are a couple of drafts from time to time. During winter, we recommend suitable footwear as you may have to walk on wet grass to get to and from the aircraft. At our normal operating altitudes, the temperature is approximately 4-5 degrees cooler than the ground.
Yes there is a maximum weight limit of 110kg for trial lesson students; this is an aircraft manufacturer weight limit.
